Kaizer Chiefs continued their relentless pursuit of continental football with a dominant 4-1 victory over Magesi FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night. The win marks five consecutive league victories for the Glamour Boys, firmly cementing their grip on third place in the Betway Premiership.

Under the guidance of Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, Amakhosi displayed a clinical edge that has often been missing in previous seasons, ruthlessly dispatching a struggling Magesi side that remains rooted to the bottom of the table.

First half: Clinical finishing

The visitors didn't take long to assert their authority. While Mduduzi Shabalala missed an early chance, the deadlock was finally broken in the 33rd minute. Flavio Da Silva opened the scoring with a moment of individual brilliance, receiving the ball with a deft touch, turning his marker, and firing home his ninth goal of the season across all competitions.

Just four minutes later, Wandile Duba doubled the lead. Capitalising on a defensive mix-up where Magesi goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze collided with his own defender, Duba reacted quickest to slot the ball into an empty net.

Second half: Putting the game to bed

Despite a triple substitution from Magesi at the start of the second half, Chiefs remained in total control. In the 62nd minute, substitute Reeve Frosler – who had been on the pitch for mere minutes – raced to the byline and cut back a perfect ball for Mduduzi Shabalala. The young midfielder showed veteran-like composure to take a touch and finish into the far corner, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback.

Magesi did manage a consolation goal in the 69th minute through a Diteboho Mofokeng header, but the night belonged to the Soweto giants. Khanyisa Mayo put the cherry on top in the 83rd minute, heading home another pinpoint Frosler cross to restore the three-goal cushion.

The victory keeps Chiefs six points clear of Amazulu in the race for CAF Confederation Cup qualification, with a crucial game in hand.

What's next?

Amakhosi now look toward a grueling run of away fixtures, but with their current momentum and the “in-form trio” of Silva, Duba, and Shabalala firing on all cyclinders, the Naturena faithful have every reason to believe that the glory days are returning to the village.
