The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa(IEC) has cleared an ongoing confusion about who is the leader of uMkhonto weSizwe(MK)Party according to their records as the body responsible for elections.
The IEC was responding in a letter that was written by Jabulani Khumalo whereby he was requesting them to remove Jacob Zuma as the face of the party and as the president of that particular party too.
In other words,the IEC is going to ignore Khumalo's request to remove Jacob Zuma as the face of the party and president because Khumalo is no longer a party leader.
On Tuesday,the Electoral Commission has made it clear that it has no interest of involving itself in the internal fighting of political parties.
IEC said the Commission reiterates its stance that it does not involve itself in internal affairs of political parties.Additionally,the Commission only acts on instruction of the registered leader of the party.In the present case,Mr Jacob Zuma is the registered leader of MK Party.This has been so since 10 April 2024.
Why Khumalo wants to removed?
According to the letter that Jabulani Khumalo wrote to letter IEC he spill the beans about how Jacob Zuma became the face of the party and president of the MK Party.
He said:"On 23 April 2024,I was called into a meeting with several individuals who are not in the national executive committee,but have been active in MKP.Mr Zuma announced that I had been removed as the president of the party,and he would henceforth become the president.
During that meeting a fraudulent letter was prepared for transmission to the Electoral Commission announcing that I would no longer be on the list of candidates and that Mr Zuma would be the face and the president of MKP."
In his letter to IEC,Khumalo has clarified that in the previous letter he wrote to the Commission he only authorised Zuma to be the face of MK Party on the ballot paper not to be a President.
He said I sent a letter to the Electoral Commission,in which I confirmed that Mr Zuma would be the face of the party.At no stage did I confirm that Mr Zuma would be the president of MKP.
Khumalo added that Mr Zuma's conduct has brought MKP into disrepute and he has acted contrary to the terms of the constitution of the party.He has purported to remove me as a party leader without following any procedures.
In the same letter that he wrote to IEC,Khumalo complained that Mr Zuma's daughter Ms Duduzile Zuma has been busy lately disgracing his name in public.
He concluded by saying that the appointment of Mr Zuma as the President of MK Party was done fraudulently and must be removed immediately as both the face of the party and president.
How MK Party was founded?
Former President and Founder of MK Party Jabulani Khumalo has shared secretive information with the IEC about how the party was formed.
uMkhonto weSizwe Party(MKP) was registered with the IEC on 7 September 2023 by Jabulani Khumalo after he consulted Jacob Zuma for political advice and guidance.
According to Khumalo,during those consultations,Mr Zuma proposed that any name of the party should be aligned to the ANC,because there are to many political parties,and the brand of the ANC is entrenched within the public and the population.
He revealed that in fact the name uMkhonto weSizwe was proposed by Mr Zuma,I was responsible for the registration of MKP with the Electoral Commission.Mr Zuma also assisted with raising of the funds for the registration,which was around R705 000.I am not at liberty to name the persons who paid for the registration.
