Inkatha Freedom Party(IFP) Member of Parliament and Deputy Chief Whip,Khethamabala Petros "KP" Sithole(68) who was assassinated at Buyafuthi Hostel in Katlehong will be laid to rest on Sunday at Qhudeni,Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal. 

He was shot and killed last weekend on Saturday when he was attending an official IFP event at the hostel while he was standing outside the marquee with other IFP leaders,and two other people were injured on that particular day. 

The police managed to arrest two suspects on Monday and appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court for the first time on Thursday and their case was postponed for next week for bail application.

Phindi Mjonondwane,Regional Spokesperson for National Prosecuting Authority(NPA) said the case has been postponed to 12 June 2025 for a formal bail application.Both accused are in custody,and they are facing charges of murder,attempted murder,and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.Investigations are ongoing,with the possibility of adding more individuals.

Sithole began his political journey at a young age when he joined Inkatha Freedom Party in the late 1970s in Nkandla and he continued his passion for politics even when he relocated to Gauteng province in pursuit of green pastures.

Over the years,he served in various structures such as IFP Ekurhuleni Chairperson and IFP Gauteng Provincial Chairperson,also served as a Councillor in Ekurhuleni and brief stint in the Gauteng Legislature.

He has been a Member of Parliament since 2010 after he was redeployed from Gauteng and served in the National Assembly until his death.

During his fifteen years as a member of parliament,he served in different portfolio committees such as Human Settlements,Ethics and Members' Interests,and Communications and Digital Technologies.

The memorial service for Sithole was held on Thursday at the Germiston Civic Centre,Ekurhuleni and was attended by the national leadership of the IFP such as Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi,IFP Deputy President.

Today(Saturday),the IFP KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Executive Committee(PEC) led by its Chairperson,Thamsanqa Ntuli has visited the Sithole family in Nkandla to offer condolences and support.
