On Sunday,the Joburg metro police has successfully arrested suspects which are linked to number of criminal acts for phone snatching around the City of Johannesburg.

According to Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department Spokesperson Xolani Fihla,in the early hours of this morning,the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department(JMPD) Tactical Response Unit received a lookout from CCTV camera operators for a white Toyota Corolla which was fitted with false registration plates and suspected to be used by criminals for snatching cellphones from unsuspecting victims in the Johannesburg Inner City and surrounding areas.

He said while on patrol officers spotted the sought vehicle.The vehicle was intercepted at Empire Road and Victoria Road in Parktown.A vehicle inquiry was conducted using the eNatis system and it was discovered that the registration plates belong to a Volkswagen Polo.

"Further information led the officers to another vehicle that was allegedly used for phone snatching parked at Caroline and Alexandra Road in Hillbrow.

"Upon arrival,the officers found a white Hyundai Accent which was identified as a vehicle used to snatch phones.

"The trio was arrested and detained at Hillbrow SAPS for fraud and forgery and the possession of vehicles used in the commission of a crime.

"While the police investigation is ongoing,further arrests are imminent,"Fihla added.

In the second incident,the police confirmed an arrest of woman which is accused of murder.

According to SAPS,a 47-year-old woman is expected to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrates' Court on Monday,13 November 2023,on a charge of murder.

SAPS said the arrest emanated from an incident in which the body of a 56-year-old man was found on Thursday evening,9 November 2023,in Hartbeesfontein along the R503 road.The body was found with a stab wound on the upper body in a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle next to the road with lights on.The victim was certified dead by emergency medical services personnel.

Police added that after a thorough investigation,the suspect was arrested on Friday,10 November 2023,in Hartbeesfontein.

In the third incident,the police confirmed an arrest of a 43-year-old suspect for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at Shikwambani village outside Tzaneen in Mopani District.

According to SAPS,the alleged incident was witnessed by a street Hawker on Saturday,11 November 2023 at about 12:30 at Shikwambani village when 43-year-old male suspect proposed love to the minor victim,thus touching her breast and the private part while she was walking on the street.

Police said the street Hawker immediately called the victim's mother to alert her of the incident.The mother then reported the matter to the police where a sexual assault case was opened and then transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence,Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further handling.This resulted in the tracing and successful arrest of the suspect at Mhlaba Cross village on Sunday,12 November 2023.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before Ritavi Magistrate's Court on Monday,13 November 2013.
