The Pietermaritzburg High Court has handed down a harsh sentence to a 38-year-old man who was convicted for five sexual-related offences such as sexual assault,one count of rape and accessing child pornography.

That man was working at a primary school in Pietermaritzburg whereby he constantly abused young boys using his position to advanced his evil acts.

According to National Prosecuting Authority(NPA),the man was a counsellor at a primary school in Pietermaritzburg where he preyed on male learners.In his capacity as the school counsellor,he consulted with learners in his office on the school premises.He was arrested in 2016 when the incidents came to light.

The perpetrator was convicted using a damning evidence which was collected by the prosecution which proved that the man has destroying many young men emotionally and physically.

NPA added that in the state's case,Senior State Advocate Atti Trutter submitted Victim Impact Statements compiled by some of the children and their parents,and facilitated by the KZN Deputy Director for Court Preparation,Roelien Wiesner.All their statements spoke of how the man had gained their confidence only to break their trust and violate their rights.The parents said that the man's actions have had irreparable effects,not only on the affected children but their families as a whole.One child said that following the abuse he became withdrawn and angry.He felt uncomfortable around males and did not trust his teachers.

The man was granted leave to appeal on his conviction to the Supreme Court of Appeal.He was denied bail,pending appeal so in the meantime he will remain behind the bars as where he belongs.

The NPA welcomed the conviction of that sexual predator and they hope that his conviction would teach lesson to other predators out there and concluded by thanking all parties who were involved on making that work as success.
