Mamelodi Sundowns produced a clinical second-half performance to defeat Siwelele FC 3-0 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night, extending their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership.
Patient first half against stubborn defence
The Brazilians were forced to show patience in a goalless first half against a resolute Siwelele side that defended in numbers. Goalkeeper Wandile Mthombeni impressed on his Premiership debut with several important saves that kept the visitors level at the break.
Goals flow after the interval
Sundowns finally broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. Teboho Mokoena unleashed a powerful long-range effort that crashed against the crossbar, and Kutlwano Letlhaku reacted quickest to prod the rebound into the net.
Substitute Siyanda Ndlovu doubled the advantage in the 79th minute, capitalising on a defensive error to finish clinically. Tashreeq Matthews completed the scoring in the second minute of stoppage time, racing onto Ndlovu's pass and chipping the ball over Mthombeni.
Six points clear at the summit
The result moved Miguel Cardoso's side to 19 points from seven matches (six wins and one draw), opening a six-point gap over second-placed Orlando Pirates, the defending champions, who have two games in hand. Siwelele remain near the foot of the table and are still searching for their first win of the season.

Cardoso later reflected that the plan had been to drain Siwelele's energy, noting that the visitors tired after the interval and his side took full advantage. Sundowns controlled the majority of possession, created the clearer chances, and kept a clean sheet in a dominant display.
The victory continues the Brazilians' strong earl-season form and increases the pressure on their title rivals as the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign gathers momentum.
