The Office of the Provincial Commissioner in Western Cape has confirmed that South African Police Service(SAPS) has confiscated drugs worth millions of Rands during a special operation in Thembalethu,George.

Police statement said the illicit drug trade in the Western Cape was dealt a heavy blow when police confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R2.1 million in Thembalethu,George.

According to police statement,on Sunday,18 February 2024,Outeniqua K9 Unit members operationalised information on illicit drug activities and proceeded to a house situated in Zone 08,Thembalethu.Upon arrival the members found that the premises was left abandoned by the occupants.The police found 36 550 mandrax tablets,300 gram heroin and 532 gram tik on site.The drugs were confiscated.

Police continued to say an investigation surrounding the discovery is underway and the suspect is yet to be arrested.

Still in the Western Cape,over the weekend the police arrested two suspects in an unrelated second incident for drug dealing.

"In an unrelated incident,on Saturday,17 February 2024,Albertinia and Kwanonqaba police members conducted patrols along the N2 highway near Albertinia.The members spotted two men and upon searching them,police found 500 mandrax tablets in their possession.Both suspects were arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.

The suspects aged 26 and 47,remain in police custody,"police said.

On Saturday night,in the third incident,police in the Mossel Bay area arrested group of suspects which was found in possession of drugs.

Police said meanwhile,Garden Route District Crime Combating Team members conducted crime combating operations in Mossel Bay last night,17 February 2024.The team arrested seven suspects on drug related charges after drugs were found in their possession.Police confiscated 80 mandrax tablets,20 grams of tik as well as small quantities of heroin and dagga.

Police confirmed that all arrested suspects will appear in their respective courts once charged.

Police concluded that Western Cape police management commended the forces for their interventions to rid communities of drugs.These confiscations are in line with the policing approach of this province to eradicate the illicit drug trade.

24 suspects arrested by Vosman detectives over the weekend

The Operation led by Vosman detectives resulted to an arrest of 24 suspects over the weekend for various offences such as murder,rape,other sexual related cases and many others.

"The suspects were sought for various offences.A murder suspect was amongst the arrested suspects whilst two suspects were arrested for rape and other two were nabbed for other sexual related offences.

"Six suspects were arrested for property related cases and two others were apprehended for tempering with essential infrastructure,two were arrested for theft,one was arrested for housebreaking and theft and one for malicious damage to property.

"There were also two suspects that were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.One suspect was arrested for common assault and contravention of a Protection Order,two for were arrested for common robbery and one was arrested for business robbery.

Additional two suspects were arrested for contempt of court,"said South African Police Service,Office of the Provincial Commissioner,Mpumalanga.
