President of Republic of South Africa(RSA) Cyril Ramaphosa is attending the joint summit which is hosted by SADC and EAC in Tanzania to find solutions for the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) conflict.
He is attending that summit in Tanzania after his country lost 14 soldiers which killed by M23 rebels two weeks ago while were stationed in Goma as peacekeepers.
Ramaphosa is one of the heads of states from Southern Africa Development Community(SADC) and East African Community(EAC) who devoted their time to gather in Dar Es Salaam to address the deteriorating security situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC).
The Presidency said the Extraordinary SADC Summit held last month mandated the SADC Organ Troika on Politics,Defence and Security Cooperation,to engage all state and non-state parties to the conflict on a ceasefire process to protect lives and facilitate a smooth flow of humanitarian support and communities affected by the armed conflict.
The Presidency added it also urged Political and Diplomatic leaders who are parties to the conflict to engage in a coordinated effort of dialogue, including supporting the Luanda Process,MONUSCO and others,to restore peace and security in Eastern DRC.
On his working visit to Tanzania is accompanied by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, and Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Angie Motshekga and other senior government officials.
It is confirmed that the President of Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) Felix Tshisekedi has decided to attend the summit virtually while his Prime Minister Judith Suminwa is present in person in that ongoing summit.
Meanwhile, the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame is attending the summit in person and he is accused of sponsoring M23 rebels to destabilise the neighboring mineral-rich country so that he will loot the resources without any hurdles.
The conflict in eastern DRC has forced more than 400,000 people to flee their homes after the M23 rebels captured the city of Goma, this year alone.
