The South African Police Service in the Northern Cape has arrested six men and seized six Jetour T2 Hybrid vehicles valued at approximately R4.752 million after an intelligence-driven operation in Colesberg.
How the operation unfolded
Crime Intelligence in the Western Cape alerted Colesberg SAPS at about 14:40 on Friday, 16 October 2026, that six white Jetour T2 Hybrids were travelling from Beaufort West towards Colesberg. Highway Patrol, Colesberg Visible Policing and Hanover SAPS members were quickly positioned along the route. The vehicles were spotted roughly 35 kilometres from Colesberg, each carrying a single male driver.
The drivers claimed they were transporting the vehicles to an undisclosed destination in Pretoria. Officers found documents suspected to be fraudulent inside the cars. Investigators later established that the vehicles had allegedly been fraudulently purchased, resulting in their immediate impoundment.
Twelve vehicles linked to the probe
Six similar Jetour T2 Hybrids had already been impounded in Beaufort West by Western Cape Crime Intelligence. This brought the total number of vehicles linked to the investigation to twelve.
Arrests and seizures
Six case dockets were opened at Colesberg SAPS for possession of suspected stolen vehicles. The six suspects – all South African citizens aged between 28 and 62 – were arrested and remain in custody. Items seized during the operation include six Jetour T2 Hybrid vehicles valued at approximately R4.752 million, ten cellular phones, documents suspected to be fraudulent. The suspects are expected to appear in the Colesberg Magistrates' Court soon.
Provincial commissioner praises teamwork
Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga, commended the officers for their swift response, vigilance and professionalism.
He described the operation as a clear demonstration of the power of intelligence-led policing and effective inter-provincial collaboration.
“Crime does not respect provincial boundaries, and neither can our response to it. The swift sharing and operationalisation of intelligence enabled our members to intercept these vehicles and apprehend the suspects,” Ngubelanga said.
He added that the police would continue strengthening partnerships with Crime Intelligence and other law-enforcement counterparts nationally.
