The South African Police Service(SAPS) has rescued three young women from Botswana which were almost trafficked to Sierra Leone through job scam at OR Tambo International Airport on Friday.
"The victims, aged between 20 and 23, were reportedly lured via social media by a syndicate under the false pretence of being offered job opportunities in Sierra Leone.
The victims were en route from Botswana to Sierra Leone via South Africa and Nairobi when they were intercepted and rescued by members of INTERPOL NCB Pretoria and the Germiston Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit after landing at OR Tambo International Airport," said Lt Col Amanda van Wyk.
A preliminary report suggests the Botswana High Commission in Pretoria had alerted INTERPOL to assist in tracing the missing victims, she concluded.
Police rearrested inmate escaped at Caledon facility
The police in Western Cape rearrested the inmate which is serving a life sentence for rape which escaped from a correctional facility in Caledon on Saturday morning.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg said following the escape of an inmate from a correctional facility in Caledon on Saturday morning, 08 November 2025, a well-coordinated search team was established comprising of the SAPS Drone Unit, Visible Policing, Public Order Police, K9 Unit, Private Security and the Department of Correctional Service, led to the re-arrest of the inmate late Saturday night.
Sergeant Twigg has commended the SAPS Drone Unit which played an important role to locate the inmate which was hiding in the river.
“Hampered by difficult terrain and darkness the SAPS Drone Unit was mobilized to assist the members on the ground with the search. Extensive search efforts paid off when thermal imaging technology was used by the Drone Unit to locate the inmate and he was re-arrested. SAPS members went into the river and arrested the inmate who is serving a life sentence for rape,” added Sergeant Twigg.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner,Lt Gen(Adv) TE Patekile thanked the members for their commitment in ensuring the re-arrest of the inmate, concluded Sergeant Twigg.
