On Friday,the Durban High Court sentenced three hitmen for a combined eight life imprisonment plus 187 years after they convicted for murders,attempted murders,kidnapping and robberies happened in the taxi industry in KwaZulu-Natal.

"The Durban High Court has on Friday,20 June 2025 sentenced 28-year-old Nkazimulo Ndlovu,Mzameleni Tsepo Majola(33),and 35-year-old Mondli Fihlela to a combined eight terms of life imprisonment plus 187 years in jail after they were found guilty of taxi industry related murders,attempted murders,kidnappings and robberies with aggravating circumstances which they committed in the areas of Mayville,KwaDukuza,Empangeni and KwaMsane,"said Colonel Robert Netshiunda,KZN SAPS Provincial Spokesperson.

Colonel Netshiunda revealed that the suspects were arrested in 2022 by the Provincial Taxi Violence Unit after their cases were transferred from various police stations across the province.

"The cases were transferred from various police stations to the Provincial Taxi Violence Unit and the investigating team arrested the three suspects in February 2022.Shrewd investigation by the investigating team successfully managed to keep the suspects in custody until the day of the sentencing.Nkazumulo Ndlovu from Empangeni was sentenced to six terms of life imprisonment plus 92 years in jail,Mondli Fihlela from Ndwendwe will spend two terms of life imprisonment plus 50 years facing prison walls,whereas Mzameleni Majola,from Mkhandlwini in Melmoth,was condemned to jail for 45 years.All three convicted murderers were declared unfit to possess firearms,"added Colonel Netshiunda.

He also revealed that the police arrested the suspect which is linked to the ruthless mass murder happened on May 2025 where eight people were brutally murdered in the informal settlement in Umlazi.

"In another success,police officers who are members of the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit,Point Tracing Team and Umlazi Trio Task Team arrested a 28-year-old suspect who is linked with the May 2025 mass murder where eight were shot killed and four other injured inside a house at Zamani informal settlement at U Section in Umlazi.Police acted on a tip-off from a community member and the suspect was found at his hideout spot at Emhlabeni informal settlement in Umlazi.The suspect,who also had a warrant of arrest issued against him for a November 2024 case of pointing of a firearm,will appear in court soon,"concluded Colonel Netshiunda.
