The Western Cape High Court has sentenced Moyhidian Pangaeker a serial rapist to nine life terms languishing on prison after being convicted for numerous sexual assault cases.
He is being convicted for cases which some happened more than thirty years ago whereby he was abusing a family member but that was not reported to the law enforcement.
The case of this rapist was handled with care by an investigating officer Captain Martino Plaatjies who armed with more than 32 years experience in the South African Police Service(SAPS),but 17 of those years was working in the FCS environment, where he worked on cases of Tazne van Wyk who was brutally murdered.
According to police,Captain Plaatjies took his time to dig deeper to uncover more about Pangaeker and that help him to have a strong case,he uncovered that this serial rapist has committed many offences ranging from assault, indecent assault, kidnapping, multiple counts of rape and murder.
Police added that Pangaeker who had gained the trust of the seven victims, six of whom were children and family members manipulated and abused the relationship.
The Western Cape SAPS management has applauded the sterling work done by an investigating officer and the prosecution team which was responsible for this case.
"We hope the outcome of this case will serve as a motivation to other detectives that are investigating similar cases.Although this may be cold comfort for the family of Tazne van Wyk,Pangaeker's sentence will ensure that he remains incarcerated away from children,"said Lt General Thembisile Patekile.
The Western Cape SAPS also commended a good judgement that was handed last week in the Wynberg Regional Court whereby a 33-year old Mncendisi Mqulwana was sentenced to 15 years behind the bars for the rape of a child with special needs in Nyanga.
According to police,in October 2020,Mqulwana lured the 16-year-old victim to his house in Emms Drive where he locked the doors, threatened and proceeded to rape the victim. After the gruesome act,the victim begged the perpetrator to release her and she fled the scene. The mother of the 16-year-old victim accompanied her to Nyanga police station, where a case of rape was registered. The suspect was arrested moments after the incident was reported. The investigating officer,Sergeant Yandiswa Jack built a strong case against the accused. She stood her ground in court,as the defence fired numerous questions in a bid to derail her.She remained calm and simply answered the questions stating the facts. She was lauded as a credible investigating officer.
