Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department(EMPD) has reported that a 12-year-old driver was arrested for killing a 14-year-old pedestrian at Brakpan area on Saturday. 

The statement mentioned that on Saturday 07 June 2025 at 13:45,the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department(EMPD) Accident Bureau Officers,attended to an accident that claimed the life of a fourteen(14) year-old,in the Brakpan area.

The EMPD statement revealed that the pedestrian was declared dead on the scene and was hit by a 12-year-old which failed to obey a stop sign.

"The officers were summoned to an accident that occurred at the corner of Northdene and Medeley Street,upon arrival officers found the lifeless body of a fourteen(14) year-old pedestrian,who was declared deceased on scene by the paramedics.Also at the scene,the officers found a Mazda that allegedly bumped the pedestrian driven by a twelve(12) year-old driver.

The driver was handed in,at the company of his guardian,to the Brakpan South African Police Service(SAPS).It is alleged that the driver disobeyed a stop sign and collided into the pedestrian,"said EMPD statement.

The statement stated that the suspect is expected to appear before the Brakpan Court soon.

The EMPD also confirmed that five suspects which are accused of committing crime around Kempton Park were arrested on Thursday and were found with stolen items.

"On Thursday 05 June 2025 at 11:30,the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department(EMPD) Kempton Park Precinct Officers,arrested five(5) suspects between the ages of twenty-five(25) and forty(40) years in the Kempton Park.

While conducting crime prevention,officers received information about a white VW Polo that has been terrorizing the Kempton Park and the surrounding areas,with robberies and are linked to other serious crimes.Officers followed the information and spotted the vehicle matching the description.Officers managed to stop the vehicle and continued a search,upon searching,following items were found in their possession,x4 pocket knives,x1 firearm,x8 cellphones,x1 speed point,x2 passports and x7 bank cards,"said EMPD statement.

EMPD explained that the suspects are linked to crimes that were committed in Norkem Park area too,and are detained at Kempton Police Station and will appear in local magistrate court soon.

"The suspects were linked to other cases in Norkem Park for robbery,attempted murder and more cases to follow.The suspects were detained at Kempton Police Station,facing charges of possession of stolen property and possession of dangerous weapons.They are expected to appear at the Kempton Park Magistrate's court soon,"concluded the EMPD statement.
