The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department(EMPD) has reported that arrested two female foreign nationals which were found in possession of 100 bottles of cough medication at Benoni in Gauteng.

The metro police revealed that the suspects admitted that are selling the medication to the illegal miners and also discovered that these suspects are in the country illegal.

"The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department(EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers, arrested two female foreign nationals, aged twenty-five (25) and thirty-seven (37), for possession and suspected illegal distribution of medication.

While conducting law enforcement on New Modder Road, Officers stopped a brown Ford Ranger. Upon searching the vehicle, they found 100 bottles of cough medication. The suspects admitted to selling the medication to illegal miners but failed to produce receipts or a valid SAHPRA license. Further checks revealed that both women were undocumented and in the country illegally," said the EMPD.

The EMPD confirmed that the suspects were detained at Benoni Police Station, facing charges under the Pharmacy Act(Act 53 of 1974), Immigration Act( Act 13 of 2002), and for illegal distribution of medication. They are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court soon.
