A 35-year-old Fidelity Security guard contracted to the Department of Justice has appeared in the Sebokeng Magistrates' Court on a charge of rape. He is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl on the court premises while previously stationed there.

The allegations

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the accused allegedly connected with the victim on Facebook in August 2026 after misrepresenting his age as 22. The two arranged to meet at the Sebokeng Magistrates' Court at 18:00 on Saturday, 5 September 2026, while the accused was working a night shift.

It is alleged that the accused let the girl onto the premises and took her to the children's waiting room. He then allegedly gave her alcohol, which she consumed while he also drank. When the victim became sleepy, the accused allegedly asked to have sexual intercourse with her. After she refused, he allegedly raped her.

At approximately 04:00 the following morning, the accused allegedly gave the victim money to travel home. Instead of returning to the home she shared with her mother, she went to her father's residence.

How the matter came to light

When the girl failed to return home on the evening of 5 September 2026, her mother reported her missing. She was later found at her father's home, and a Children's Court enquiry was opened to determine her living arrangements.

On 26 October 2026, during an interview with a social worker as part of the Children's Court process, the victim disclosed what had allegedly taken place at the court on 5 September. The social worker informed the parents, and the matter was reported to the police.

Arrest and court proceedings

The accused was arrested on 27 October 2026 at the Vereeniging Magistrates' Court, where he was stationed at the time. The case has been postponed to 6 November 2026 for a bail application. The State intends to oppose his release on bail.
