Today marks the one-year anniversary of a pivotal moment in South African law enforcement. On 6 July 2025, South African Police Service Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi held a press conference in Durban that brought allegations of widespread corruption within the service to the forefront of national discourse.

Recognising exceptional integrity

ActionSA, led by President Herman Mashaba, has issued a statement extending its deepest appreciation to Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi for the courage, integrity, and commitment to the people of South Africa that he demonstrated during that event.

According to the party, this whistle-blowing action was instrumental in initiating the Madlanga Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Alleged Criminality, Political Interference, and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System. This inquiry has since provided a necessary platform for a multitude of witnesses to account for their conduct in both public office and business practices.

A continued commitment to justice

ActionSA emphasised that without this decisive intervention, the state of the criminal justice system might have continued to suffer under those whose sole interest is to capture the state. The party highlighted Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi's dedication to public service and his steadfast adherence to the principle that there can never be peace between a police officer and a criminal. As the nation reflects on these events, ActionSA has reaffirmed its own dedication to championing the independence of criminal justice institutions and eliminating corruption.
