Bonginkosi Khanyile arrested for conspiracy to commit public violence

The former uMkhonto weSizwe(MK) Party youth leader Bonginkosi Khanyile(34) was arrested on Friday by Hawks and appeared in court for conspiracy to commit public violence.

He was arrested for an offence which is allegedly that was committed on March before the 29 May 2024 elections where he was encouraging his party's members to disrupt elections.

The police statement said it is alleged that Khanyile made a public announcement which was in contravention of the riotous assemblies Act.The essence of the announcement was to instigate the citizens of South Africa to protest and commit acts of violence all over the country should the political party of his choice not be on the ballot paper.

The police also mentioned that in his statements Khanyile was telling South Africans to unite and go loot the country as they did back in 2021 when former President Jacob Zuma was arrested.

Police added that the announcement also had connotations that the citizens of the country must gather together and loot the country as previously done in July 2021.A criminal case was reported at Brixton police station and Khanyile was arrested at Durban Magistrate Court whilst he was appearing for the July 2021 matter.

Khanyile was released on bail and will return to Durban Magistrate Court on 23 September 2024 where he will standing for both cases.

On March 2024,during a press conference held in Johannesburg ,the former MK Party youth leader Khanyile made threats by declaring war if the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa(IEC) removes Jacob Zuma on the ballot.

Khanyile has been going in and out of prison for almost a decade now as he was firstly arrested for his involvement on Fees Must Fall protest in 2016 when Jacob Zuma was a President of South Africa.
