Orlando Pirates delivered a masterclass at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Sekhukhune United aside with a resounding 3-0 victory to complete a comprehensive 4-0 aggregate triumph in the MTN8 semi-finals.
First-half blitz breaks the deadlock
The Buccaneers entered the second leg holding a narrow 1-0 advantage from the first encounter, but any hopes Sekhukhune had of staging a comeback were systematically dismantled by a ruthless home side. Despite early resistance and some sharp saves from Babina Noko goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata, the deadlock was finally broken in the 37th minute when Thapelo Mokobodi latched onto an assist from Yanela Mbuthuma to fire past the defense.
Before the visitors could regroup, lightning struck twice. Just two minutes later, Mbuthuma turned provider again, releasing Gamphani Lungu on a rapid counter-attack to slot home Orlando Pirates' second and effectively put the tie out of reach before halftime.
Controlling the second half
Armed with a commanding three-goal cushion overall, the hosts managed the game intelligently after the interval. Sekhukhune threw numbers forward in desperation, testing Sipho Chaine with efforts from distance, but Pirates' backline held firm. As the match drifted into stoppage time, substitute Kamogelo Sebelebele put the exclamation point on the performance, firing home a left-footed strike in the 94th minute to seal the 3-0 scoreline on the day.
The victory sends the Buccaneers charging into their fifth consecutive MTN8 final, where they will face the winner of the tie between Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.
