The Eastern Cape police arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for stabbing to death two women aged 42 and 54 at Gomba locality, Hlabatshana A/A in Mqanduli on Sunday evening.
The South African Police Service(SAPS) in Eastern Cape reported that is alleged that one of the victims was involved in a romantic relationship with the suspect and the motive for the killings is unknown.
"It is alleged that the 30-year-old male suspect had a romantic affair with the 54-year-old female victim who is also the owner of the homestead. A witness who is a neighbour arrived at the homestead and to her surprise identified an already dead woman in a pool of blood whilst the suspect was busy stabbing the second female victim.
The neighbour alerted community members who arrived and allegedly assaulted the male suspect. Both deceased victims had multiple stab wounds on their upper bodies and were certified dead by Emergency Medical Services personnel whilst the suspect was rushed to hospital under police guard so severely injured. Motive for the killings is unknown and it forms part of the investigation," said Captain Welile Matyolo.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana urged police to collect all necessary evidence so as to be brought to court for a water-tight case for the perpetrator to face full might of the law for such a gruesome, brutal murder of defenceless women, concluded Captain Matyolo.
