Hawks arrested drug trafficker in possession of mandrax worth R2.7 million

On Sunday,the Hawks has intercepted a drug trafficker which was travelling to Cape Town in possession of drugs worth millions of Rands.

According to SAPS,a suspected drug trafficker was today,12 November 2023 arrested on N2 near Strand heading towards Cape Town after being found in possession of drugs worth R2.7 million.

The police confirmed that the arrest of the suspect came after getting a tip-off and then acted on it.

"The 34-year-old suspect was nabbed following a multidisciplinary operation led by the Hawks' South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau team based in Bellville together with Western Cape Crime Intelligence's Counter Narcotics and Gangs.

"The team acted on information of a suspect who was travelling from Eastern Cape to Cape Town with a truck loaded with mandrax tablets.

"The Hawks' team spotted the vehicle matching the description and it was stopped and searched.

"Upon conducting the search,6100 mandrax tablets were found hidden in a false compartment inside the truck.

"The suspect was immediately arrested and the drugs were seized for further investigation,"the police said.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Strand Magistrate's Court on Tuesday,14 November 2023 facing a charge of dealing in drugs.

Another two suspects arrested for dealing in drugs

According to SAPS,on Friday,10 November 2023,members of Milnerton Crime Prevention Unit followed up on information received about a drug peddler,who stays at Dublin Street,Summer Greens.Members searched the premise and found 738 Mandrax tablets and 8 * small Bankies Tik.The suspect was detained at Milnerton Police Station.

Police said in an unrelated matter,members of Milnerton CPU further received further information that someone was selling Mandrax at another premise.Upon arrival,the members of Milnerton CPU searched the premise at 22 Carrington crescent,Parklands and found 19 000 Boss Mandrax's valued around R955 300-00 in a white wardrobe in the house.The suspect was arrested.

Police concluded that both suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates' court once they have been charged.
