KwaZulu-Natal police neutralised four most-wanted suspects which were terrorising the community of uMbumbulu during a shootout occurred in the south of Durban on Thursday afternoon.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, KZN SAPS spokesperson confirmed that four suspects who were wanted for various serious and violent crimes were shot and fatally wounded in a shootout with police at Adam's Mission in the KwaMakhutha policing precint, south of Durban on Thursday afternoon.

Netshiunda mentioned that police were on an intelligence-driven operation when they spotted the vehicle matching the description of the one which the suspects were using to terrorize the community of Umbumbulu and other areas by committing armed robberies, house robberies, carjackings and kidnappings.

He explained that the police caught up with the suspects on Sheleni Road and during the confrontation, a shootout ensued. After the shootout, four suspects were found to have sustained fatal gunshot wounds. One suspect narrowly evaded arrest and a manhunt for him is underway. No police officer was injured during the shootout.

Chinese fugitive extradited to China for fraud

The Chinese man which was wanted for fraud in China was extradited and the law enforcement agencies are on the heels of other Chinese fugitives which are hiding in South Africa.

"SAPS Interpol has handed over 63-year-old Fujia Chen to a Chinese delegation. The Chinese national is being extradited back to China for fraud. He allegedly defrauded the Chinese government of R120 million by running an unregistered foreign currency exchange business.

"He fled to South Africa in 2021 after his accomplices were arrested in China. He was hiding in South Africa until he attempted to apply for a US visa. He was arrested and has been in custody for the past six months.

β€œAn extradition order was granted on 20 January 2026. He has been surrendered and is on a flight back to China, where will stand trial for crimes committed,” the SAPS statement said.

The SAPS revealed that during a meeting with the Chinese delegation, led by the Acting Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lieutenant General Khosi Senthumule, progress was provided on the imminent arrest of 18 other Chinese fugitives who are hiding in South Africa. Eleven have been placed on Interpol's red noticed.
