Monnapule Saleng dump Orlando Pirates to join Mamelodi Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns has made a significant move in the January transfer window by signing highly skilled winger Monnapule Saleng from Orlando Pirates.
The 27-year-old player has joined the Betway Premiership champions for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
Saleng's departure from Orlando Pirates comes after a turbulent spell, reportedly due to tactical disagreements and concerns over his consistency.
During his loan spell at Orbit College, Saleng showcased his attacking prowess, scoring two goals and providing three assists in 11 league appearances. He was also handed the captain's armband, highlighting his leadership qualities and influence on the pitch.
With his new signing, Sundowns aims to strengthen its squad for domestic dominance and continental success.
With Orlando Pirates, Saleng won awards and accolades such as MTN8 Last Man Standing and DSTV Premiership Players' Player of the Season at the 2023 PSL Awards.
During his stint in Johannesburg, he scored 25 goals and created 17 assists in 70 matches for Orlando Pirates, above all he won five trophies with Buccaneers, including three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup trophies.
Saleng played for several clubs, including Free State Stars and Moroka Swallows, and has been featured 13 times in the South African senior national Bafana Bafana.
He was born in Bloemhof, North West Province, he began his youth football career with Orbit College in 2017 up until 2019 when he joined Free State Stars.
