The South African Police Services(SAPS) in Gauteng province has discovered drugs worth approximately R6 million hidden in a wooden snooker pool table at the warehouse at OR Tambo International airport.

SAPS National Spokesperson,Brigadier Athlenda Mathe revealed that a crime intelligence driven operation led to the discovery and confiscation of R6 million worth of crystal meth.The drugs were found hidden in a wooden snooker pool table that was destined for import at a warehouse at OR Tambo International Airport.

Mathe said that police were following up on intelligence when they made the discovery of the drugs which were allegedly destined for Australia.

According to Brigadier Mathe,police are following all leads to determine the origin of the drugs in SA,as well as who delivered the consignment for import.

She made it clear that no arrests have been made and investigations continue.

The interception of drugs has been commended by the National Commissioner of Police,General Fannie Masemola.

"Police at OR Tambo International Airport continue to intercept drug traffickers and large consignment of drugs almost every week-their vigilance and dedication is applauded.These drug busts should continue to send a stern warning to all drug traffickers and drug cartels that police are on high alert at Africa's largest port of entry,"said General Fannie Masemola.

Two drugs dealers arrested in Springbok

On Thursday,the South African Police Service in Northern Cape province arrested two drugs dealers in Springbok and Nababeep discovered drugs worth thousands of Rands.

Sergeant Timothy Sam said Springbok Public Order Police A Shift members arrested two suspects aged 18 and 23 years old,respectively,for dealing in drugs in Bergsig,Springbok on Thursday,12 December 2024.

According to Sergeant Sam,during the execution of crime prevention patrols in Springbok and Nababeep,members received information regarding drug dealing in Bergsig.

He added that the information was operationalised,and the identified house was searched shortly before midnight,and mandrax tablets and powder valued at approximately R50 000 and suspected tik valued at approximately R38 000 was recovered and confiscated.

Both suspects were arrested and charged for dealing with drugs and expected to appear at the Springbok Magistrates Court soon.

Four drugs dealers arrested in Eastern Cape

The police in Humansdorp and Joubertina had arrested four suspects who were found with drugs worth thousands of Rands on Wednesday.

Captain Marius McCarthy revealed that the successful execution of an intelligence driven operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects for dealing in drugs and the recovery of illicit drugs(mandrax and tik) with an estimated street value of R27 8000.00.

According to McCarthy,it is alleged that on Wednesday 11 December,Sarah Baartman District Intervention Team,Makhanda Crime Intelligence Unit and Highway patrol members operationalised information that was gathered and successfully executed search warrants in Humansdorp and Joubertina.Four(4) suspects between the ages of 24 and 53 were arrested for dealing in drugs.

McCarthy added that the suspects are due to appear before the Humansdorp Magistrate court on charges of dealing in drugs soon.
