Police seized 80kg of cocaine worth R20 million in Midrand

The police in Gauteng province seized 80kg of cocaine which worth approximately R20 million during raid in a private property in Midrand last night.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe,South African Police Service(SAPS) National spokesperson confirmed that on Tuesday evening,28 October 2025,a multidisciplinary team led by Crime Intelligence Head Office inclusive of Gauteng Organised crime unit,SAPS JHB K9 and members of the Local Criminal Record Centre(LCRC) were following up on information of drugs that were being stored at a plot in Blue Hills,Midrand.According to further investigation,the drugs were brought into South Africa from a neighbouring country and were destined for Cape Town,Western Cape.

Brigadier Mathe mentioned that the drugs were found hidden in a storage room and the owner of the plot was arrested,and is expected to appear in court soon.

"The cocaine was found hidden in a storage room on the identified plot.

"A 56-year-old man who is believed to be the owner of the plot has been arrested and the cocaine weighing about 80kg has been seized.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Midrand Magistrate's Court later on this week,on a possible charge of possession of drugs as well as dealings in drugs,"concludes Brigadier Mathe.

Roodepoort K9 arrested two suspects with drugs worth R3 million

The police in Roodepoort arrested two suspects aged 25 and 50 after they found in possession of drugs worth R3 million on Tuesday,28 October 2025.

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said it is reported that the members of Roodepoort K9 while busy patrolling around Roodepoort policing precinct and after noticing suspicious behaviour at a house in Schultz Street in Horizon View,Roodepoort and on entering the house they found two occupants and members proceeded to search the premises and a black plastic bag with transparent plastic bag containing Mandrax tablets and six,five litre containers with Crystal meth were recovered in the bathroom and in the kitchen with the street value of R3 million,both suspects were subsequently placed under arrest for possession of drugs.

Both suspects will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court soon,concludes Colonel Nevhuhulwi.
