A 34-year-old popular radio dj from Venda in Limpopo province appeared in Waterval Magistrate Court on Tuesday after being arrested on Monday for raping a 6-year-old relative on the 12th of May 2025. 

Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba,Limpopo SAPS spokesperson confirmed that a 34-year-old prominent radio personality from the Vhembe District,Limpopo Province,has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a six-year-old relative at her residence in Mpheni Block B.

Mashaba indicated that the suspect,who works as a DJ at a radio station based in Thohoyandou,was apprehended on Monday,19 May 2025,following a thorough investigation by Waterval SAPS detectives.He made his initial appearance before the Waterval Magistrate's Court on Tuesday,20 May 2025,where proceedings were postponed to 27 May 2025 for formal bail application.

Mashaba hinted that according to information that contained by police reports revealed that the child's mother was in Gauteng province when an incident happened.

"Police reports indicate that the incident allegedly occurred on 12 May 2025 at approximately 15:30.The girl's mother,who was in Pretoria at the time,was notified by the child's grandmother that the minor was unwell.Upon returning home immediately,she learned that the child had already been taken to hospital,where medical examination confirmed sexual assault.During subsequent interviews,the child disclosed that the suspect had shown inappropriate material before committing the alleged assault,"said Brigadier Mashaba. 

According to Mashaba,the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo,Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe,expressed serious concerns regarding the incident.

She said:"It is deeply disturbing when those who should be protecting our children become the very perpetrators who harm them.The suspect's position as a public figure and family member makes this case particularly troubling,as it represents a profound betrayal of trust."

The Provincial Commissioner promised to make sure that the justice is served for the victim and that must be no impeded by the position of the perpetrator.

"I want to assure the community that the SAPS takes crimes against children extremely seriously,regardless of who the suspect is,"she concluded.
