Three business robbers neutralised during gunfight with police at Newlands West in KZN

The police in KwaZulu-Natal gunned down three suspects which were involved in the business robbery at Honeyrich area in Newlands West on Tuesday,30 December 2025.

The South African Police Service(SAPS) revealed that its members responded to business robbery that was reported at Newlands West, upon their arrival were told that suspects fled with cellphones, alcohol and money. The police began the search for the suspects which they managed to locate them and suspects chose to launch gunfight which led to the death of three suspects.

"Police in Newlands East responded  to a complaint of business robbery at Honeyrich area in Newlands West.

“Upon their arrival, they were informed that the owner of the tavern was locking up when five males approached him at gun point. They took cellphones, alcohol and an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects then fled the scene in a White Toyota Etios.

“Police officers conducted patrols looking for the suspects, and they spotted a vehicle fitting the description of the one involved in a business robbery. The members activated their sirens and blue lights with the intention of stopping the vehicle, but the vehicle did not stop. Police officers gave chase after a short while the suspects' vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The occupants alighted from the vehicle and began firing shots towards the police. In defense of their lives, police returned fire, and in the process, three suspects were fatally wounded whilst two of them fled into the bush. Police recovered a 9mm pistol, cellphones, bottles of alcohol as well as an undisclosed amount of money,” said Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza.

He stated that cases of business robbery, attempted murder on police and possession of an unlicensed firearm were registered. Investigations are ongoing, and police are on the hunt for the two suspects who fled on foot.
