Xabi Alonso assisted Bayer 04 Leverkusen to win two trophies in one season

Xabi Alonso a Spanish football manager has written new history for himself when he helped his club Bayer 04 Leverkusen to win double this season in Germany.

Alonso was appointed as the head coach of Bayer 04 Leverkusen on October 2022,and he took over from Gerardo Seoane who was sacked after a string of poor results.

In eight of months of the 2022/23 season,he ensured that his club finished the season in a reputable position and that became a reality as it completed that season in position six and qualified for the Europa League.

This season,he proved his doubters wrong when he won German Bundesliga league title and DFB Pokal Cup,and he made history for his club to help it to win its first German league title in more than 100 years of existence.

His club has won double for the first time in its history and also finished the season unbeaten in all 52 domestic games,only suffered one loss on the continental competition against Atalanta in a Europa League final few days ago.

As the head coach of Leverkusen,Alonso reinforced his squad for this season when signed players such as Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka,Jonas Hofmann,Alejandro Grimaldo,and Nigerian starlet Victor Boniface.

His club won its first German Bundesliga title on April after humiliating Werder Bremen with 5-0 score and by that time his side was still expected to play five remaining matches.

His team has broken club records when secured 28 wins,90 points,scored 89 goals,conceded only 24 goals,won 10 games in a row and kept 16 clean sheets this season.

Alonso's brief history as a head coach

Between June 2019 to May 2022,Alonso was a head coach of Real Sociedad B which plays in Spanish Primera Federacion-Group 1 and that team is a reserve team for Real Sociead which plays in Spanish La Liga.

During his stint at Real Sociedad B,his team won 40 out of 98 games played,lost 35 and drew 23,his team scored 140 and conceded 120.

From October 2022 till now,he joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen,under his guidance the German club has won 61 out of 91 games,drew 19,lost 11,and scored 211 goals and conceded only 90.

So as the head coach,Alonso has recorded 101 wins out of 189 matches,suffered only 46 losses and secured only 42 draws.

Alonso's brief history as a player

He began his professional football career at Real Sociedad at the age of 18 back in December 1999 during a Copa del Rey match.

Over the years,Alonso played different clubs which including Liverpool,Real Madrid,and Bayern Munich,and he retired from the game on March 2017.
