Benoni man sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his own kids

The South African Police Service(SAPS) has revealed that a Benoni man was sentenced to life imprisonment by Benoni Regional Court for raping his own three children repeatedly.

Captain Neldah Sekgobela said a father of three children,ages three to thirteen,was recently given a life sentence by the Benoni Regional Court.This follows the victims' mother reporting a rape case against her children's father at SAPS Benoni on 4 August 2021.

According to Captain Sekgobela,it is alleged that the accused would touch or rub the children's private parts and insert his finger in their private parts from time to time.

She mentioned that the case assigned to Detective Captain Anrika Bell of the Benoni Family Violence,Child Protection Services and Sexual Offenses Unit,who diligently investigated the case,and ensure that the suspect is arrested.

She stated that on 19 May 2025,the accused was found guilty of rape,sexual assault,compelling or causing a minor to see an act of self-masturbation,and exposing or displaying genital organs.The accused was sentenced to life in prison.

Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole has welcomed the conviction and applauds Captain Bell for her significance breakthrough in her investigation to protect the children in the District,concluded Captain Sekgobela.

In a separate incident,the Edenburg Regional Court sentenced the local pastor to double life imprisonment for raping a 12-year-old girl when his wife was at work for night shifts.

Sergeant Martin Xuma confirmed that a 47-year-old pastor from Edenburg was sentenced to two counts of rape and one count for sexual assault before Edenburg Regional Court on Friday 23 May 2025.

The pastor began in 2019 to rape the young girl and informed her father when he was doing it for the second time in 2022.

"A case of rape was opened at Edenburg police station in 2022 after a 12-year-old victim reported to her father that she was raped and sexually assaulted by a local pastor in Edenburg.

"The victim was staying with the accused.It emerged that the pastor was raping the victim in the absentia of his wife,who worked night shifts.

The rape incidents started in 2019 and during the school holidays of the year 2022 the victim informed her father.A case of rape and sexual assault was opened and assigned to Detective Sergeant Isaac Ntsepe of Trompsburg Family Violence,Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit,"said Sergeant Xuma.

The pastor was found guilty and sentenced for both counts,in first two counts of rape each was sentenced to life imprisonment and in third count for sexual assault was sentenced to five years.

Sergeant Xuma stated that count two and count three to run concurrently with count one.The accused was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.

He stated further that the Free State Provincial Commissioner of the Police,Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane,welcomed the sentencing and encouraged victims of abuse to report cases immediately.
