The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has commended Gauteng police for the rapid arrest of a suspect linked to the murder of a woman whose body was discovered at Mooifontein Cemetry in Tembisa on Saturday morning.
Suspect fled to Tzaneen before capture
It is alleged that following the murder, the suspect fled to Tzaneen in Limpopo. He was apprehended by police on Saturday evening at approximately 23:00, just hours after the body was found.
Multidisciplinary team commended for coordinated efforts
Lieutenant General Dimpane specifically praised members of Crime Intelligence in the Ekurhuleni District, Tembisa South detectives, the Investigative Psychology Unit, experts from the Gauteng Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), and members of Bolobedu Police Station for their coordinated work in tracing and arresting the suspect.
Strong message against gender-based violence
“I commend this multidisciplinary team for their swift response, coordination and determination, which resulted in the apprehension of the suspect on the same day. This is the kind of policing we expect from our members. We will continue to pursue perpetrators of murder and gender-based violence and femicide and ensure that they face the full might of the law,” said Lieutenant General Dimpane.
Investigations into other cases continue
Police confirmed that the investigation and tracing of perpetrators linked to other women's bodies found in Ekurhuleni remains ongoing, with officers following all available leads.
