A 29-year-old male suspect was arrested following a brutal sexual assault that took place in Ezibeleni. The arrest was executed by the Smithfield Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit for the incident occurred on Friday evening of April 3.

Details of the abduction

The ordeal started at approximately 19:00 when a 26-year-old woman was leaving a local tavern with a friend. The suspect approached the pair and insisted that the woman accompany him to his residence.

When she refused his advances, the situation turned violent as the suspect resorted to physical force. He reportedly hoisted the victim onto his shoulders and carried her to his home against her will, ignoring her cries for help while claiming he had something to show her.

Escape and intimidation

Upon arriving at the residence, the suspect locked the door and proceeded to rape the victim despite her continuous resistance and screams for assistance. Following a desperate struggle, the victim managed to fight off her attacker, get dressed, and flee the premises. As she escaped, the suspect allegedly pursued her and issued death threats, warning her not to report the crime to the authorities.

Justice and court appearance

The victim successfully reached the safety of her home and reported the matter to the Zastron police the following morning. A swift investigation by the FCS Unit led to the suspect being tracked down and taken into custody.

He is expected to appear in the Zastron Magistrate's Court soon to face charges of rape. This case highlights the ongoing efforts of the SAPS to combat gender-based violence and bring perpetrators to justice.
