Mamelodi Sundowns has reached CAF Champions League final after booting out defending champions Al Ahly during a fierce encounter which ended 1-1 on Friday night at Cairo International Stadium in Egypt.
The South African outfit has proceeded to the final of the biggest competition in the African continent through an away-goal rule,last week during a first-leg of the semifinals these clubs played a goalless draw at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Al Ahly opened the scoring sheet on the 30th minute with the thundering strike from Taher Mohamed Taher,and that goal was a setback and uphill for Abafana Ba Style which were trying to contain the ruthless host before half-time.
During a second-half,the visitors tried so hard to find an equaliser for the entire 45 minutes without any luck,the tables turned-up on the 90+4 minutes when Red Devils' player Ibrahim scored an own goal which turned-out to be a golden gift for Masandawana to proceed to the final.
The head of Mamelodi Sundowns,Miguel Cardoso has admitted in an interview that their match against defending champions was not easy.
"I was a very difficult match,played by the two best teams in Africa.We were together the whole time,the team believed.There was a lot of trust on the pitch.I am very happy for the team!,"said Cardoso.
After winning last night,Sundowns will face Pyramids on the CAF Champions League final which eliminated Orlando Pirates 3-2 in the second match of CAF Champions League semifinals which was also played on Friday night in Egypt.
Mamelodi Sundowns will play its first leg of the CAF Champions League final on the 24th of May at Loftus Versfeld Stadium,and Pyramids will host Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg in Cairo on the 1st of June.
Abafana Ba Style are eyeing for their second trophy of the CAF Champions League after they lifted their first trophy in 2016,and they have reached CAF Champions League finals for the third time in their history between 2001,2016 and 2025.
