The police in Mpumalanga arrested a 30-year-old suspect which was involved in a hijacking and robbery of a cigarettes delivery van on Tuesday morning at Sabie.

The suspects hijacked the delivery van on 18 November 2025 and proceeded to the nearest plantation whereby offloaded the van and loaded the stock into another vehicle which law enforcements found hidden deep in that plantation, and managed to arrest one suspect while others fled away.

"According to information, at about 08:30 the victim alleged that while driving on the Sabie/White River Road, white Kia overtook them and suddenly stopped in front of their vehicle. Two males exited the Kia and pointed firearms at them - one armed with a pistol and the other with a rifle. The suspects ordered the victims to exit their white Haval delivery van and get into the Kia. They were then driven into a nearby plantation.

"Once deep inside the plantation, the victims were instructed to run and not look back. After the suspects left, the victims sought help from people working in the plantation and borrowed a cell phone to call for assistance. Car-tracking services and the Flying Squad were activated. The stolen white Haval delivery van was later located on the Sabie/White River Road. Officers noticed tyre tracks leading into the plantation, which they followed, leading them to a Toyota Quantum containing the stolen stock taken from the delivery van.

One suspect was arrested, while the other suspects fled the scene and are still at large," said Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane.

Ndubane mentioned that the arrested suspect will appear before the Sabie Magistrate's Court today where will be facing charges of hijacking and robbery.
