Palestinian activist, filmmaker and journalist Bisan Owda has won Emmy Award for reporting Israel's ongoing war in the Gaza Strip enclave claimed more than 41,000 lives for the past 11 months.
She was voted as a winner for her eight-minute documentary titled "It's Bisan from Gaza and I'm Still Alive,' which caught an attention of the international community across different social media platforms.
She is only 25-years-old and she is active on Instagram whereby she has over 4.7 million followers and on Tik Tok has over 191,000 followers.
For the past eleven months,Bisan put her life at risk of being killed by Israeli forces which do not like people who film their ongoing genocidal attacks which are taking place across Gaza.
Bisan's dangerous journey as a journalist in the enclave has attracted multinational news organisation such as Al Jazeera to feature her work on its platforms such as AJ+ Reports and AJ+.
Due to an ongoing war in Gaza,Bisan was not present at the Emmy Awards ceremony in New York to accept her award,so Al Jazeera's staff accepted it on her behalf.
"We would like to thank the academy for this recognition. This award is testimony to the power of one woman armed only with an iPhone who survived almost a year of bombardment.Over 100 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza, including several of our Al Jazeera colleagues. Our bureau in the occupied West Bank was shut down at gunpoint just last week.We thank you,our journalistic community, for this recognition for Bisan and for the AJ+ team. And we urge you to join us in saying that journalism is not a crime.Thank you so much,"said Jon Laurence,Senior Executive Producer of Al Jaazera Media Network.
Bisan was nominated for Outstanding Hard News Feature Story:Short Form with journalists working for big news media organisations such as CNN,PBS News Hour,The Guardian and The New York Times.
Bisan's nomination for the Emmy Award was challenged by over 150 Hollywood celebrities which are pro-Israel and tried to force the organisers of that event to revoke her using baseless claims that she was affiliated with Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine(PFLP) which is viewed as a terrorist organisation by the US and its allies, however they failed.
Bisan and her family were forcefully displaced by Israel and they relocated multiple times since October 2023 from their home in Beit Hanoun.
