SuperSport United FC,has sacked its Head Coach Gavin Hunt follows a string of poor results,and the outfit is fighting for its survival to remain on the Betway Premiership at the end of the season.

The Tshwane-based club announced on Friday morning that has parted ways with the stalwart coach and will be succeeded by his assistant on interim basis and goalkeeper coach as an assistant.

"The board and management of the Club have expressed their appreciation to Hunt for the work he has done as Head Coach over many years.We remain convinced that Gavin still has much to contribute to South African and African football given his extensive knowledge and experience.We will always remain grateful for the impact he has had on the club and South African football.

"Andre Arendse will serve as an interim Head Coach with Goalkeeper Coach Grant Johnson as his assistant.We wish Coach Gavin well in his future endeavours,"said the club statement on Facebook.

Matsatsantsa a Pitori are sitting on 15th position with only 21 points in 21 games played so far,only won 5,drawn 6 and lost 10 games,and the club is facing relegation.

The 60-year-old football manager was on his second stint with the club after he left it in 2013 and he was away for almost nine years and returned to Pretoria in 2022.

In 2013,he left the club to join now-defunct Bidvest Wits where he spent seven years with that club,and then in 2020 he joined Kaizer Chiefs and there he only spent one season and left due to poor results in 2021,and he spent the rest of that season with Chippa United.

Hunt rose to prominence at SuperSport United when he won three consecutive Premier Soccer League titles from 2007-08 to 2009-10,before joining the club he had coached football clubs such Seven Stars,Hellenic FC,Black Leopards and Moroka Swallows.

In his career as a football manager,Hunt won Nedbank Cup(2004) with Moroka Swallows,three league titles with SuperSport United(2007-08,2008-09,2009-10),Nedbank Cup(2011-12) with Bidvest Wits,Absa Premiership(2016-17) with Bidvest Wits,MTN 8(2016) with Bidvest Wits and Telkom Knockout(2017) with Bidvest Wits.

As a player,Hunt began his professional football career with Hellenic in 1981-1994 and he was but in 1993 he was loaned to Cape Town Spurs and in those years he made 313 appearances and scored only six goals.
