A 60-year-old was arrested by the police with drugs worth R3,7 million and the suspect was en-route to Cape Town when he was intercepted by law enforcements at Klawer weighbridge.
According to statement, the police received a tip-off about a silver Jaguar with a trailer carrying a Jetta that is en-route to Cape Town with drugs hidden in the vehicles. The vehicle fitting the description was stopped and searched. During the search of the vehicle, they found three bags containing heroin in the boot of the vehicle. Upon an extended search to the Jetta the members found 50 more bags possibly containing heroin hidden in the back seat of the vehicle. The estimates street value of the drugs is R3,7 million.
The suspect is due to make a court appearance in the Klawer Magistrates court tomorrow.
In another incident, the police in the Free State province has succeeded to a group of eight suspects who were wanted for an attempted murder and ATM bombing happened on Saturday,15 April 2023.
The statement said that police received a shooting incident complaint in MacGregor Street, East End at about 00:47 and as the police approached the scene, shots were fired at them by fleeing suspects. Police a 30-year-old male lying on the ground with gunshot wounds on the upper abdomen and left hand. The Automatic Teller Machine was damaged. An Armed Response Security Company Officer was also shot on the abdomen and was rushed to the local hospital.
Police statement added that, according to reports, about 15 males arrived at the filling station and used explosives to bomb the ATM. The suspects reportedly fired shots at the victims as they arrived at the scene in separate incidents. The suspects then helped themselves to an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene on foot as the Flying Squad vehicle arrived.
The police investigation has led them to Namibia section in Mangaung where eight male suspects aged 25 and 40 were arrested and the getaway vehicle, a Kia with GP registration numbers was found.
Police also found two unlicensed firearms with live ammunition were also found hidden in the vehicle.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court today on 17 April 2023,for attempted murder and ATM bombing.
The police search for other suspects is still continues and police ask public assistance to reach the suspects.
