In a joint statement released on April 30,2026, the Foreign Ministers of eleven nations issued a formal condemnation of an Israeli assault on the “Global Sumud Flotilla,” a civilian humanitarian initiative.
The statement was co-signed by the Foreign Ministers of Spain, Turkiye, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, and South Africa.
Allegations of international law violations
According to the statement, the ministers condemned attacks on the flotilla's vessels and the subsequent detention of humanitarian activists. The group asserted that these actions occurred in international waters, characterising them as “flagrant violations of international law and international humanitarian law.”
The Global Sumud Flotilla is described as a peaceful civilian effort intended to draw international attention to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
Call for immediate release
The joint statement expressed deep concern for the safety of the civilian activists. The ministers urged Israeli authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure the immediate release of those currently detained.
Appeal to the international community
The eleven nations concluded their statement by calling upon the international community to fulfill its moral and legal obligations. They emphasised the need to uphold international law, protect civilians, and ensure accountability for these violations.
