The Facebook con artist known as Dr Kingsley Chele or Dr KJ Ncube has been rearrested by police in hiding around Gauteng after he escaped last week.

According to SAPS,the accused was rearrested in the early hours of the morning on Monday,16 October 2023,in Vosloorus.The arrest was as a result of information and tip-off received from one of the media houses following a media statement issued about the wanted fugitive.

The quick rearrest of the suspect was fast-tracked by the participation of different media houses who responded on the statement was issued by South African Police Service(SAPS) about his escape.

Police said the management of the police in Gauteng appreciates the role played by the media in particular and the community in general in the fight against crime.

Police has confirmed that the nationality of the con artist is not yet known and will be verified soon.

Police added that the suspect,whose country of birth is yet to be confirmed,is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Tuesday,17 October 2023.A charge of escaping from lawful custody will be added to the charges that he was already facing.

Last week,police reported that Chele is a Facebook con artist who targeted women by misrepresenting himself as a doctor or a pharmacist and scamming them of their hard earned money.

He was swindling a lot of money from his victims who fallen for his investing scams and he mainly targeted health professionals on social media.

His first arrest was done by the police at the beginning of October after two cases of fraud were opened against him in Sunnyside and Klipgat in June 2023.

He escaped in custody after his bail application was denied when appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate's Court and was remanded in custody until his next appearance on 17 October 2023.

According to police,the investigating officer of the case roped in the asset forfeiture unit to assist in attaching the accused property that is believed to have been accumulated as proceeds of crime,including a 2023 VW Golf GTI.On 11 October 2023,Chele managed to escape from lawful custody when the police were cataloguing his household items at his residence,and he has been on the run since.
