On Friday, the police in Gauteng province arrested two seriously injured suspects which were shot by hitchhiker which they were attempting to rob and the third suspect was shot dead during that incident.

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the police in Zonkizizwe have arrested two suspects, aged 32 and 43,while a third suspect a third suspect(42) was fatally shot during an armed robbery at Suikerbosrand along R550 on Friday,11 April 2025.

Nevhuhulwi mentioned that according to information received,a man reportedly hitch-hiked and accepted a lift from three occupants in a red VW Polo on the N3 in Vosloorus.

Police hinted that the occupants of that motor vehicle threatened an armed hitchhiker with knives and took his wallet.

"However, along the road, the driver took a different direction and the other suspects pulled out knives and demanded money from the victim. They searched him and took out his purse, which had some cash.

"He then pulled out his licensed firearm, fatally shooting one suspect, and seriously injured the other two.

Two of the suspects were immediately arrested and are under police guard in hospital and the third one was declared dead on scene,"said Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.

A case of armed robbery and an inquest has been opened for further investigations, she concluded.

In a separate incident, the 40-year-old wanted suspect was arrested on Thursday by Rustenburg Trio Task Team after a warrant of arrest was issued because failed to abide to his parole conditions after he was found guilty for a rape which he committed in October 2012.

Colonel Adele Myburgh said crime intelligence received information, leading the team to a liquor outlet in Lethabong, where the man was found and immediately apprehended.Police investigations further linked the wanted suspect to three other cases in Bojanala sub-district 2(Rustenburg area). He will appear before the Rustenburg Magistrates' Court on Monday,14 April 2025,on three charges, including a murder, attempted murder and business robbery.

The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner of North West,Major General Patrick Asaneng said the arrest of the parolee is worrisome, given the fact that a lot of state resources are spend in tracing and arresting these convicts, who are then given a second chance of reintegration into communities, but instead decide to continue with their life of crime, concluded Colonel Myburgh.
