On Wednesday,police in Gauteng discovered an illicit alcohol manufacturing plant after raided one of the properties in Midrand,and arrested two suspects which will appear before Midrand Magistrate Court. 

The South African Police Service(SAPS) confirmed that the police in Gauteng arrested a father and son after illicit alcohol manufacturing plant was uncovered in Midrand on Wednesday,06 August 2025.At the manufacturing plant,police discovered illicit alcohol to the estimated value of R2 million already packaged for distribution and some inside containers. 

The police revealed that a member of the public informed the Gauteng Highway Patrol Unit about a suspicious movement of people in one of the properties. 

"Members of Gauteng Highway Patrol Unit received a tip-off from a concerned member of the public about a strange movement of people at one of the properties in Midrand.The police responded swiftly and proceeded to the property. 

On arrival, police found illicit alcohol that includes brandy,gin,rum and vodka,some of which were branded with known alcohol brands.Police also found chemicals that are suspected to be used during the manufacturing process,"the police said. 

The police highlighted that the raid into that property comprised the Highway Patrol Unit and Hawks,and father and son were apprehended, and will appear in court soon. 

"The Highway Patrol Unit members were joined by the members of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation(DPCI) who processed the scene.A 36-year-old man who was found at the scene was arrested.Investigation led to the arrest of the second suspect, aged 70.

 The suspects are expected to appear before Midrand Magistrate Court facing charges that include dealing in illicit liquor,Contravention of Liquor Act,and Contravention of Customs Act,"the police concluded. 

Yesterday,in a separate incident,police in Northern Cape arrested a 28-year-old after she was found with dagga in Matjieskloof.

 "The Namakwa District Task Team,comprising Shift A and Shift B,conducted a tactical,intelligence-driven operation on Thursday,7 August 2025,at approximately 15:30,at a house in Salie Street,Matjieskloof.

 The operation was the result of intelligence gathering about a person alleged to be dealing in dagga from their residence.During the operation,members searched the premises and found 15.21 kg of hydro dagga and a substantial amount of cash,believed to be the proceeds of sales,"police said. 

The police mentioned that arrested the suspect and confiscated items worth millions of Rands,and the suspect scheduled to appear in court today. 

"One female person,aged 28,was arrested for dealing in dagga.The total value of the seized items is estimated to be R1 837 610.00.

 The female suspect is expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate's Court on 8 August 2025 for dealing in dagga,"the police concluded.
