Limpopo police arrested a 43-year-old uncle which attempted to rape a 14-year-old niece, the incident happened at Sedan village in Letsitele on Thursday, 08 January 2026.

According to Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the complainant was inside a room at her home when her uncle entered and attempted to her. The brave young victim managed to fight back and fled to her father, to whom she immediately reported the incident.

Brigadier Mashaba confirmed that the case of rape was opened, the suspect was arrested and will appear in court in the upcoming week.

"A case of rape was promptly opened at Letsitele Police Station and subsequently transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for further investigation.

“The suspect was swiftly arrested by police and is scheduled to appear before the Tzaneen Magistrate's Court on Monday, 12 January 2026, facing a charge of rape,” he said.

Mashaba mentioned that the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has commended the swift action taken by the investigating officers and the courage displayed by the young victim.

“I want to commend the victim for her bravery in coming forward and reporting the incident, and I encourage all victims of sexual offences to break the silence and report these crimes to police,” said Major General Scheepers.
