The South African Police Service(SAPS) in KwaZulu-Natal has issued a statement to inform the public that the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi does not have social media accounts.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda,SAPS Provincial Spokesperson confirmed that police in KwaZulu-Natal have noted that there are several social media accounts, especially on X(formerly Twitter),TikTok and Facebook which are using the names and photographs of Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal,Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Netshiunda emphasised that all social media accounts that are bearing the face of Provincial Commissioner are fake and people must be careful because people responsible for those accounts are impersonators.

"Police in KwaZulu-Natal would like to inform the public that Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi does not have a social media account, and declare all social media accounts bearing his names and photographs are fake, and that they are being used to deceive the public into believing that it is the Provincial Commissioner communicating via such platforms.Although police are contemplating taking legal steps against those who impersonate the Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal to advance their personal agendas, the public is hereby informed that those profiles are fake and that neither the police in KwaZulu-Natal nor the Provincial Commissioner have endorsed such fake accounts,"said Colonel Netshiunda.

Netshiunda also expressed Provincial Commissioner's request to people of South Africa to stop using his photographs during political-aligned marches especially those are targeting President Cyril Ramaphosa.

"The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal would also like to plead with members of the public to refrain from using his photographs during various politically-aligned marches, especially those are against the State President.Although the Provincial Commissioner appreciates the support that people have showed towards the work of the police in KwaZulu-Natal,the use of his photographs and names on posters and banners during marches has the potential of sending unintended messages to government, government officials and the international community. The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal is against crime and criminals, not leaders in government,"concluded Colonel Netshiunda.

Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has been on the limelight in these few weeks since he broke out the news that shook the South African political landscape and police force at large, where he accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of working with criminal syndicates and interfering in the work of police in the province of KwaZulu-Natal after he disbanded Political Killings Task Team.
