The Police in KwaZulu-Natal has killed two gunmen in Melmoth which were linked to the ruthless killing of five family members of Mayise at Ulundi.

Police said on 3 March 2024 at 06:00,police received a report of a multiple murder at a homestead at Dumaneni in Ulundi.Upon arrival at the scene,police were informed that three gunmen entered the premises and opened fire at the family members.

The swift police response to the ruthless killing of Mayise family members has helped to find the culprits and police discovered dangerous weapons during the ambush of gunmen.

"Four family members died at the scene and the fifth one died on the way to hospital.Five counts of murder were opened for investigation at Ulundi SAPS.The docket was transferred to the Provincial Organised Crime Unit for further investigation.The victims were identified as Mandlenkosi Mayise(66),Delisile Mayise(63),Phemile Mayise(36),Bongathini Mayise(34) and Phindile Mayise(29).

"On Tuesday afternoon,police officers from the National Intervention Unit acted on information regarding the hitmen involved in the murders in Ulundi.The information led the team to a homestead at Encanyini,KwaYanguye in Melmoth.As police officers approached the homestead,two armed men emerged from a rondavel and opened fire at the police officers.The two suspects died at the scene following a shootout with the police officers.The deceased are believed to be in their thirties.

Police recovered a revolver and a rifle plus 24 rounds of ammunition from the deceased's suspects.A search was conducted inside the rondavel and police found four cellphones and four rounds of shotgun ammunition.Further investigation and a search conducted at the crime scene resulted in police recovering a shotgun,homemade firearm,a pistol and parts of a revolver.The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing.The shooting incident was reported to IPID for investigation,"said Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala.

Two male suspects arrested for murder

In a separate incident,the police in Limpopo has arrested two male suspects aged 24 and 29 for assaulting a 27-year-old man to death in Ga-Mochemi village in Senwabarwana on Tuesday morning,05 March 2024 around 08:15.

According to police statement,the victim reportedly succumbed to the injuries while at his home,after he was allegedly assaulted by his girlfriend's brother and their neighbour.The tragic incident occurred while the victim was visiting his girlfriend at her parental home and the couple got into a heated argument.The woman screamed for help,and her neighbour went to the house to assist,but he failed as the victim was intoxicated.That's when he went out to look for the woman's brother and when the two returned a fight broke out between the three men.The suspects allegedly assaulted the victim with sticks.

It is reported that the victim did not die at the crime scene after he was fetched by his relatives,and the suspects will appear court.

"The victim was later fetched by his relatives.They called the ambulance later on when they realised he was having complications.He was certified dead.

The two suspects were arrested and charged with murder.They will appear before Senwabarwana Magistrate's Court on Wednesday,06 March,"said Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
