Two suspects which are accused of killing Captain Wynand Du Toit got arrested two days ago and appeared before the Springs Magistrate's Court on Wednesday,19 February 2025.

Warrant Officer Thatohatsi Mavimbela confirmed that Nthuthuzelo Mana(32) and Benjamin Ntuli(37) have appeared before the Springs Magistrate's Court on Wednesday,19 February 2025 for the murder of Captain Wynand Du Toit who was attached to Springs SAPS.

Mavimbela revealed that the selfless Captain Du Toit was shot when he was trying to respond to robbery at the local supermarket even though he was off duty.

He said Captain Du Toit was shot and killed on Sunday,16 February 2025 during a robbery at a supermarket in Geduld,Springs.The owner of the shop and his two brothers were ambushed by four males who entered the supermarket and ordered the brothers to lay down.Captain Du Toit who was off duty at the time,was visiting the supermarket when he was informed by members of the public that there was a robbery in progress at the supermarket.When the officer ran inside to assist,the robbers began shooting,during the crossfire Captain Du Toit was wounded as well as one of the suspects.The suspects fled the scene while members of the public rushed Captain Du Toit to Parkland hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

The police succeeded to arrest the first suspect in that day of an incident and the second suspect was arrested the following day in Mpumalanga.

He said later the same day of the incident,information was received about a possible suspect who was admitted at Pholosong hospital in Tsakane with gunshot wounds which led to his arrest.The suspect is currently under police guard.Further investigations led to the arrest of the second suspect who was arrested on Monday,17 February 2025 in Evander,Mpumalanga.

He added that the pair made their first appearance at the Springs Magistrate Court on Wednesday,19 February 2025,Mana who is currently in hospital appeared in absentia.The matter has been postponed to Thursday,27 February 2025 for further investigations.

Five suspects killed Lt Col Piet Pretorius remanded in custody

The Hawks confirmed that four suspects that are accused of killing Lieutenant Colonel Piet Pretorius abandoned their bail application in Ermelo Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi said four of the five suspects,a former police official Mthobisi Nkosi(40),Aubrey Xaba(35),Skhumbuzo Skhakhane(40) and Nyiko Mujovo(30) abandoned their bail application in Ermelo Magistrate's Court on 18 February 2025.

The victim Lieutenant Colonel Piet Pretorius was working as the Commander of Ermelo Vehicle Investigation Unit by the time he was killed.

He revealed that the four suspects appeared alongside Valencia Skhosana(36),who proceeded with her bail application.

The suspects made their first appearance last month in the same court and were remanded in custody for a formal bail application which was scheduled for yesterday.

The fourth suspects which abandoned their bail application were remanded in custody again and their will appear in court on 10 April 2025.

Nkosi said Skhosana proceeded with her bail application.She was also remanded in custody,and her bail application is scheduled to proceed on 27 February 2025.
