Four armed suspects killed in a police shootout in Alberton

Four armed suspects were killed in a police shootout,four unlicensed firearms were discovered on the scene and suspects' vehicle lost control during police chase in Alberton on Saturday morning.
The police statement revealed that four armed suspects were fatally wounded and four unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered during a shootout between the law enforcement officers and the suspects on the R59 in Alberton on Saturday,26 October 2024,at approximately 09:00.
According to statement,police crime intelligence received information about the suspects who were planning to commit a business robbery in Johannesburg.A team of law enforcement agencies that included Gauteng Crime Intelligence,SAPS Gauteng Tactical Response Team,SAPS Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit,Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing,CAP Specialised Operations,Tracker Connect,and Badboyz Security Group,were activated to be on the lookout for the suspects.
The vehicle that was traveling the suspects was spotted on heading to Johannesburg CBD and police tried to stop it however the occupants chose did not obey the instructions.
Police said a silver grey Toyota Corolla,that matched the description circulated,was spotted driving on the R59 towards Johannesburg CBD.As the law enforcement agencies were stopping the vehicle with four occupants,the suspects started shooting at the law enforcement officers.A shootout and high-speed chase ensued.The suspect's vehicle capsized in the middle of the road.
According to police,all four suspects were certified dead on the scene.Four unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects.None of the law enforcement officers were injured.
The police leadership in Gauteng has commended a sterling work done by law enforcement agencies and security companies to stop criminals.
"A team of law enforcement agencies mobilised all resources,including the chopper,to be on the lookout for the suspects.The collaboration paid off when the team jointly intercepted the suspects and foiled the armed robbery.There could have been loss of lives had the suspects been successful with their criminal activity.Thanks to the law enforcement officers who averted all that.
This collaboration will continue throughout the festive season and beyond.The message to those who are planning to commit crime this festive season is that we are ready for them,"said Police Provincial Commissioner in Gauteng,Lieutenant General Mthombeni.
