Police arrested suspect with drugs worth approximately R5 million

Police has confirmed an arrest of a 35-year-old suspect which was found in possession of drugs which are approximately worth R5 million at Ruyterwacht in Western Cape.

The suspect was arrested by police members attached to Operation Lockdown III on Saturday evening,28 September 2024.

According to SAPS,the members were busy with crime prevention duties in Zoetenal Street,when they noticed a male standing next to a white Chevrolet Optra who appeared to be nervous when he saw the police vehicles.Acting on their instinct,the members searched the male and found drugs on him.The members further proceeded to search the house where he was standing at where more drugs were recovered inside the house.The members confiscated 87,058 mandrax tablets,a big bag containing unknown white tablets,two large pieces of rock cocaine and five big sachets containing crystal meth.The estimated street value of the drugs is R5 million.

Police said the suspect will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates' Court once he has been charged.

In a separate incident,in Western Cape police apprehended another male suspect who was in possession of illegal firearm.

Police said in an unrelated matter members of the Maitland Flying Squad arrested a 37-year-old man in the early hours of Saturday morning,28 September 2024 when they searched an informal dwelling in Athlone and confiscated a 38 Special revolver.The suspect faces a charge for the illegal possession of a firearm.

Police clarified that he will appear in the Athlone Magistrates' court once he has been charged.

Police launched manhunt for suspect killed 17 people in Lusikisiki

The Minister of Police,Senzo Mchunu has confirmed during media briefing that police are on the heels of the culprits that killed 17 people in Lusikisiki on the early hours of Saturday morning.

Minister Mchunu said this morning,we woke up to the news of 17 family members who were shot and killed in Ngobozana village in Lusikisiki.This callous attack took place at two homesteads in the same street,during the early hours of this morning.

It was reported that in the first homestead no survived that heartless attack and in the second homestead only six people survived including a two-month old baby.

"In the first homestead,four people were shot and killed,with no survivors.

"In the second homestead,there were 19 people in two different houses in the same yard.13 people were shot and killed.Six people survived which include a two-month old baby.

In total,15 women and 2 men were killed,the survivors are four women,one man and the two-month-old baby,"Minister Mchunu added.

Minister Mchunu revealed that National Police Commissioner,General Fannie Masemola,has mobilised maximum resources to ensure these killers are found.The National Commissioner has deployed a dedicated team of detectives and forensic experts which include crime scene managers from Pretoria to piece all evidence together in a bid to apprehend these brutal criminals.
