South African drug mule and two Nigerians escorts arrested in OR Tambo airport

The South African female drug mule and two Nigerians escorts were arrested for drug trafficking by Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation(HAWKS) at OR Tambo International airport.
Police said an alleged drug mule who departed the Republic of South Africa(RSA) recently for Brazil under the guise of shopping for her 'upcoming wedding' has landed in hot water after she was apprehended at OR-TAMBO on Tuesday,27 August 2024.
The drug mule arrived in South Africa on Tuesday morning from South America,upon her arrival at the airport was cornered by law enforcement agencies and asked to search her luggage and her escorts were found at the international arrivals hall waiting for her.
"The Germiston based Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation team pounced on the unsuspecting 33-year-old traveler at ORTIA this morning.A search to her luggage revealed the consignment of narcotics,which was established to be 10kg of cocaine.The vigilant team in the company of customs and dog detector further scanned the surroundings for possible aides and accomplices.
Two suspects were identified and monitored at the International Arrivals hall.They were approached and brought in for questioning at the police station.They stated that they were waiting for a traveler from elsewhere,but they couldn't provide proof thereof.It was eventually established that they were actually waiting for the arrested drug mule originating from Motherwell in Port Elizabeth,"concluded police statement.
Her accomplices are aged 37 and 52,the trio is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Thursday,29 August 2024.
Two illegal foreign nationals arrested with drugs worth over R3 million
The South African Police Service(SAPS) has reported that the KwaZulu-Natal police has apprehended two foreign nationals who are in the country illegally in possession of drugs worth over R3 million in two separate incidents around Durban.
The SAPS statement said police were conducting an operation when they gathered intelligence about a man who was selling drugs and the information was immediately operationalised.The suspect was spotted in Umbilo and upon searching his vehicle,police found 900 heroine capsules.Follow-up investigations led the police to the suspect's house on Sphiwe Zuma Avenue in Umbilo where more heroin capsules and powder were found.The recovered drugs are estimated to be worth a street value of R2 million.The 34-year-old suspect was duly arrested and charged with possession and dealing in drugs as well as being in the country illegally.
In a second incident,police arrested another illegal immigrant in possession of drugs worth over million of Rands in Berea.
Police said in another drug bust,a 38-year-old illegal immigrant was arrested after he was found in possession of heroin powder in Berea.The suspect was put on surveillance following his suspected involvement in narcotics related activities.Further investigations pointed to his apartment on Riley Road in Essenwood where a search was conducted,leading to the recovery of more heroin powder worth a street value of approximately R1 million.
Both suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Wednesday,28 August 2024.
