Stellenbosch FC confirms exit of Iqraam Rayners to Mamelodi Sundowns

On Thursday,Stellenbosch FC has confirmed that its lethal striker Iqraam Rayners has completed the move to join DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Stellies said Iqraam Rayners has joined Mamelodi Sundowns on a permanent transfer after a buy-out clause in his contract was triggered.

Rayners has left the Stellebosch-based club carrying his head high because he holding a record of being all-time top goalscorer after he netted 68 goals in 135 appearances in two spells in the Cape Winelands.

He joined the Stellies in 2017 till 2020,and in those years helped the team to win promotion to the South African top-flight.

He rejoined the club in January 2023 and he played a pivotal role for the Stellies and his return reaped positive results for the club as the club excelled during Carling Knockout campaign.

The Stellies' CEO is happy that his club has contributed positively on shaping the career of Rayners over the years and he thanked him for his hard-work he showed for the club and wish him all the best in his new endeavors.

Last season,Iqraam Rayners was named 2023 Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament,and he was nominated for DStv Premiership Footballer of the Season and Player's Player of the Season awards,as well as the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament.

Media reports speculates that Mamelodi Sundowns has agreed to pay almost R10 million just to get a signature of Rayners in a mission to strengthen the squad ahead of a new season.

Rayners began his professional football career in 2014 when he joined Santos FC from his amateur club Kenpark United,between 2014-2017 he succeeded to score 14 goals in 58 appearances.

He left Santos FC in 2017 to join Stellenbosch FC,and from 2017-2020 he netted 53 goals in 80 appearances before being snatched by SuperSport United.

From 2020-2023,in his stint with Pretoria-based club he made 51 appearances and only managed to score 6 goals.

In January 2023,he rejoined his former club Stellenbosch FC and that was the best decision because that helped him to revive his scoring abilities as he scored 24 goals in 38 appearances.

In 2023,he was selected for the first time for national team by Bafana Bafana head caoch Hugo Broos,in nine appearances has scored three goals.
