Two suspects arrested for helping Thabo Bester to escape in prison

Police announced that are apprehended two suspects who are allegedly helped the notorious Thabo Bester to escape in prison last year.

The two suspects were arrested over the weekend after the police launched an investigation to found the accomplices that played the role for the 'Facebook rapist' to escape.

One of these suspects arrested is a former employee of G4S,a security company that is responsible for the managing of the Mangaung Correctional Centre whereby the escapee was assisted to escape.

The police said that a 39-year-old former G4S employee and a 65-year-old man from Port Edward,in the Eastern Cape are expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday,11 April 2023,following their arrest as investigations into Thabo Bester escape from prison unfold.

Police continued to say the multi-disciplinary team investigating Bester's escape from the Mangaung Correctional Centre arrested the duo over the past weekend. The former G4S employee was arrested at his residence in Bloemfontein on Saturday,08 April 2023,while the 65-year-old man was arrested on Friday,07 April 2023 at his home in Port Edward.

According to police, both suspects have been charged with aiding and abetting a convicted prisoner to escape from lawful custody.

The arrest of these two men occurs while the delegation from South Africa which comprises top management of the SAPS has arrived in Tanzania to fetch Thabo Bester and bring him home to face justice.

SAPS added that the delegation is led by the SAPS' Deputy National Commissioner responsible for Policing,Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili has arrived in Arusha,Tanzania.The team is currently engaged with their Tanzanian counterparts to finalise all legal processes required towards bringing escapee Thabo Bester and his accomplices to justice in South Africa.

The latest reports about the arrest of these two men has been applauded even by the National Commissioner of Police and is confident that more arrests would happen.

The statement concluded that the National Commissioner of the SAPS,General Fannie Masemola has welcomed the latest arrests and confirmed that the possibility of more arrests could not be ruled out.

Thabo Bester and his girlfriend Dr Nandipha Magudumana were arrested last week by Tanzanian police when they were heading to the border of Kenya after the news of his fake death revealed by SAPS.

Bester has been living a lavish lifestyle for almost a year at Hyde Park,Johannesburg in a R12 million mansion in the same neighborhood with the President Of South Africa,Cyril Ramaphosa.
