Mamelodi Sundowns has been knocked out of the MTN 8 Cup by Stellenbosch FC in a second-leg match which ended 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Sundowns was humiliated and lost both legs of the MTN 8 Cup semifinals on the hands of Stellies after winning 2-0 on aggregate score.

The lonely goal scored by Bradley Mojela on the 51st minute was enough to secure a place for Stellies on its first-ever MTN 8 Cup final where will face the defending champions Orlando Pirates which defeated Cape Town City 3-1 on aggregate score.

Stellies' playmaker Andre de Jong was chosen as the Man of the Match on his 50th appearance for his club.

Sundowns tried by all means to crack the defence of its opponents however they failed dismally because the back-line of Stellies was solid.

Midweek,Stellenbosch FC traveled to Pretoria to play against Mamelodi Sundowns in the first-leg of the MTN 8 Cup,and the visitors did very well away from home as they smashed the host 0-1 with a goal scored by Fawaz Basadien on the penalty spot at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Since Rhulani Mokwena left Sundowns as the head coach at the end of the season things do not look good under leadership of Manqoba Mnqithi.

In the other side,Stellies looked unaffected that much by the departure of Iqraam Ryaners who joined Mamelodi Sundowns few weeks ago.

Stellenbosch FC will battle for the MTN 8 Cup title against the Buccaneers on 5 October 2024,however,at the moment the location for the grande final is unknown.
